Volunteer at the at the Biokovina Wild

We offer a range of volunteer positions, each playing a crucial role in our mission. Come and join us and help in the creation of this magical place.

A True Exchange

We look to host volunteers where there is a true exchange. We have something to learn from everyone who has come to offer us their time and energy. And we aspire to give something back in terms of new skills, sense of community, immersion in nature and time out in a village where time has stood still.

Volunteer Ethos

We very much we prefer to work with people who are self motivated and self starters. We take a little time to understand your skills and talents and then try to fit that with our current goals and projects.

Whilst we work hard and in all weathers we are quite relaxed and flexible about hours worked if you are a digital nomad and have other commitments throughout the day. Occasionally we might have a day where we need all hands on deck but for the most part we are open to being flexible.

In general we prefer people to come for longer periods but we also do a review after the first 2 weeks just to check in and see that it is feeling like a good fit for everyone.

We offer a healthy plant based diet and attractive accommodation in a beautiful location. Meals are shared and we take it in turns to cook.

Stari Ambar construction

Learn how to build a wooden cabin from a repurposed traditional Bosnian oak barn. We blend modern pragmatic building techniques with traditional and eco techniques to create something beautiful that is rustic and blends in with the environment. Come and share your skills and learn how to build your own barn in the future!

Permaculture Garden Preparation

For those of the green fingered nature we welcome you to get involved with the establishment of our new permaculture garden. Recent volunteers have been helping us prepare for the Spring season.

Animal Care

If animals are your thing you won’t be disappointed. Our permanent residents include rabbits / guinea pigs / horses / dogs / cats / guinea fowl / chickens. And of course, we have a flow of injured wildlife in and out. Recent volunteers have been helping us with the equine care. If you want to get out into nature in your free time our dogs make loyal companions for walks out into the wilds.

Hazel Lodge Construction

Sometimes it’s all hands-on deck required! We had to get the concrete ring beam poured in one day for structural integrity reasons. Come away from Biokovina Wild understanding essential housebuilding techniques and making a fun shared day whilst we create essential infrastructure.

White Swallow Lodge

The Perfect Spot for Community Meals and Views

The heart of any community space White Swallow Lodge houses the kitchen facilities. Immediately in front is a large terrace where we often gather for community meals overlooking the permaculture gardens.

Chill Out Area

Relax and Unwind in the Chill Out Area

The Chill Out Area is an outdoor space for relaxing and taking it easy. In warmer weather it is shaded by sailcloths. It is also close to the firepit also situated in the same gardens.

Eagles View

A Stunning Spot for Outdoor Workshops

Eagles View is the highest point on the property and has the best view. It is situated above our natural springwater supply. It is a great space for outdoor workshops and practice.

Hazel Lodge

Discover Hazel Lodge: A Peaceful Workshop Setting

Hazel Lodge is our main indoor area for hosting workshops and retreat activities. It is situated away from the main accommodation and has a stunning view back down the valley.

Attic

The Attic: A Quiet Space for Reflection and Creativity

Whilst we encourage people to spend as much time as possible outside in nature the Attic offers a quiet indoor space to reflect and assimilate. It is also the home of a 4K cinema which some workshop hosts might want to use for presentations and workshops or if the mood takes a movie night.

Firepit

Gather and Connect in the Heart of the Garden

The Firepit is another gathering space situated in the main garden. It offers a place to come together and tell stories around the fire.

Fruit and Nut Forest

Nurturing Sustainable Food Sources in the Village

The endemic plant life is so vibrant that it will swamp many things that you try to grow. Fruit and nut trees and shrubs are good long term food sources so we have planted more than 200 fruit and nut trees throughout the village.

Forest

Surrounded by Ancient Forest and Wildlife

All around us there is ancient forest land. A beautiful mixture of deciduous and coniferous trees. The forest frames the village and is home to some of Europes apex animals – wolves bears and lynx.

Meadowland

A Haven for Rare Orchids and Butterflies

The Meadowland around Biokovina is second to none mostly because there is no use of chemicals in the ancient farming techniques practised in the village. Rare orchids abound – it’s a botanists paradise. But not to be left out there is a cornucopia of butterflys – a lepidopterists dream.

Communal Gardens

Green Spaces for Reflection and Relaxation

Whilst formal gardens are not our style we do have green spaces to retreat to and reflect upon and assimilate your experiences at Biokovina Wild.
